Who is Emil Nolde?
Emil Nolde was born in 1867 in the Prussian Duchy of Schleswig to Danish peasants. He was fond of wood carving from a very young age and made a living out of it. He was interested in painting as well and did many portraits during his youthful days. Even now Emil Nolde landscape paintings are in high demand.
Many people saw his paintings and word soon spread that the boy has talent. In 1906 he was invited to join Die Brücke, which means the bridge in German. It was an association of Dresden-based Expressionist artists who discussed and explored the various techniques and methods of Expressionism art.
